Caterpillars to Butterflies

When I first started writing this I wanted to title it "End of Year Craziness." However, as I wrote I found myself reflecting on the changes that the kids are making as we move from the end of one school year and into the beginning of the next. So instead, in honor of Isaac's exciting caterpillar experiment, and the changes that our children continue to make in their progress toward adulthood... I title it "Caterpillars to Butterflies."

The last month has flown by. Marina has had an exciting month as she attended Kindergarten orientation and met her new teacher for the fall, and had her Kindergarten interview. After leaving orientation, she was ready to begin school the next day. It was difficult to explain waiting 3 more months. She is very excited and thinks her teacher is pretty. I hope this holds true for the summer, and that we can avoid any meltdowns on the first day of school.
Isaac has been nurturing a catapillar named "Dibble." He was anxiously awaiting its emmersion from its chrysalis. It arrived and he set it free on Friday. And as a typical father would be, was very worried about its survival in the real world. He has truly loved science this year at school. His little non-fiction brain is a sponge. He is eagerly counting down the days till the end of the school year, and becoming a Third Grader!
Both Isaac and I (Vycci) have an eventful few remaining days of school...field trips, Field Day, etc...
We are all busily preparing for Isaac's baptism this coming Saturday. Isaac had his interview with the bishop today. When asked if he wanted a parent to come in with him, he answered, "No, I'm alright." That's our independent and fearless Isaac. We are so proud of his decision. He is truly amazing. I am savoring every moment of his youth. As a third grade teacher, I know how much they change from little kids to big kids this next year.
Danny was happy to conclude his classes this semester and ended on a great note with 2 A's. He is looking forward to seeing the light at the end of the tunnel over the next year. He had a day retreat this last week at a bed and breakfast in North Denver where he got to see an old friend and teacher. He is going to participate in this eventful week at school by helping out on the third grade walking field trip and field day. He is doing this all voluntarily...What is he crazy??? Well if he's not now, he will be!!!
Well the next time you hear from us, school will probably be out. Yeah, we will have made it!

Isaac's B-day and Mother's Day

This weekend we were slam packed. Friday night Isaac had a BBQ at his school to celebrate diversity. Saturday morning he got to go to breakfast with his grandma Rolayne at the "Moonlight Diner". I'm still trying to figure out why the name of a breakfast place is moonlight. We then had swimming lessons, bought mothers day gifts for the mothers in our family and topped it off by going to Cinema Grill with Isaac's friend Jacob. After going to Movie Tavern and Cinema Grill I have to say that Cinema Grill is by far the better value and the better food, better ambience and all together better experience.

Vycci and I have also been in the process of turning our spare bedroom downstairs into an excercise room. Previously we had a mini computer lab set up for the kids in that room and so we determined to consolidate to one computer and put it in our downstairs reading room/hallway. So after an already busy Saturday we went ahead and bought a computer desk, set it up and completed our room shift project. I still think there are a few loose ends to tie up but it's coming along.

Mother's day was nice as we went to church after taking it easy all morning, we then ate dinner at Danny's parents where Isaac opened up more b-day gifts and the mom's got cards. Then it was off to Grandma Rolayne's and finally back home to crash out from a very packed weekend.

Swimming Lessons

Isaac and Marina just completed their fourth week of swimming lessons on Saturday. Isaac is in the Stingray class and Marina is in the Starfish class. They are both doing very well in their classes. Both started swimming lessons with dad when they were infants and are just refreshing their skills before the summer swimming season.
